Behavioural Competencies

What you do when you are applying your knowledge and skills on the job. Behavioural competencies include the traits, motives, attitudes, values, beliefs and other personal characteristics you bring with you.

They are proven drivers of higher performance. Focusing on skill and knowledge produces quicker initial results, but not sustained productivity. Focusing on behavioural competencies produces the greatest long-term return. As it is not easy to train behavioural competencies, it's important to consider these characteristics during the hiring process. The PDS project has provided a description of behavioural competencies in a competency glossary.
