What is the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
The EAP is the Saskatchewan Credit Union system's employee assistance program. The EAP forms part of your CUIS extended health coverage. The program is designed to provide you with access to confidential, professional help in times of personal and family need. The purpose of the program is to encourage people with personal issues to get help as soon as possible – before their individual health, relationships, and work life are seriously affected. The EAP offers a variety of screened qualified service providers to choose from.

What do we mean by "personal issues"?
Personal issues come in many different forms. Occasionally we may require support to keep personal issues from affecting our happiness and health, family relations and work performance. Personal issues may include marital/relationship concerns, parent-child conflict, job stress, psychological and emotional issues (i.e. depression, grief, etc.) alcohol and drug abuse, and financial concerns.

Who is eligible?
Eligibility is governed by your credit union's extended health care policy. As part of your credit union's participation in the National Financial Co-operatives Employee Benefits Plan with Extended Benefits, you and your family members are eligible to access the EAP.

Using EAP
EAP is a voluntary and completely confidential program that you or your family can use at any time. There may be occasions; however, when your supervisor recommends EAP if he or she believes that personal issues are affecting your work performance. At your final EAP session, your counsellor will provide you with an evaluation form. We encourage you to complete this form anonymously and send it to the address provided to help your National Financial Co-operatives Employee Benefit Plan representative evaluate the program and the service provided. Full confidentiality is assured. Also, please be aware that the Extended Health Plan is charged for missed appointments or cancellations with minimal notice. Therefore, if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointments, cancel as soon as possible (at least 24 hours in advance).

How confidential is EAP?
The EAP is strictly confidential when an employee or family member initiates contact with a pre-approved service provider. Your personal circumstances will never be known by the credit union or shared by the service provider unless required by law. All of our service providers must meet strict standards.

How much coverage do I have?
Each credit union participating in the program has a customized agreement on the CUIS coverage maximum regarding EAP. Please speak to your credit union human resources manager or general manager for details on maximum coverage or contact the CUIS Call Centre.
