Why PDS
The People Development Project was initiated
to address an issue of increasing concern for Saskatchewan
credit unions – the shortage of qualified people. Credit
unions are finding it increasingly difficult to attract and
retain qualified people, and to develop existing employees
to meet future needs.
The problem isn’t restricted to the credit
union system – or even to the province of Saskatchewan.
But Saskatchewan seems to be feeling even more sharply the
effects of baby boomers leaving the workforce, and young people
leaving the province altogether.
The age of our population is increasing and birth
rates are decreasing significantly.
The way credit unions and others in the
financial industry do business is also changing, and will
continue to rapidly advance. Credit unions need to align their
organizational goals and objectives with their people. In
other words, they need to make sure their employees have the
skills necessary for the future.
